Wealthcare have raised just over £2,000 for Bury Hospice – our charity of the year for 2015.
Kylie Flett, client services executive, led the way by completing six sponsored 5km races …
Her colleagues contributed with activities including a skydive from 10,000ft, dress-down Fridays, and running an office tuck shop with all profits going to the hospice.
Wealthcare joint managing director Stephen Cainer said he was delighted with his staff’s efforts.
“I’m extremely proud of the team for their dedication and the energy they have put into raising money for such a worthwhile cause.
“It’s been great fun and extremely rewarding. All of the staff have contributed, and we’re very pleased we have managed to raise such a large sum.
“As a company, we believe it’s essential to make a positive contribution to our society, and Bury Hospice makes a real difference to our local community.
“We will continue to raise money for good causes and are looking at other local charities we can support in 2016.”
Bury Hospice has 12 beds and costs almost £2m a year to run, the equivalent of £5,000 per day.
It receives just 10 per cent of its funding from the NHS, with the rest generated through its shops, a lottery, legacies, events, individual and corporate donations.
Sarah Monaghan, 25, mortgage administrator, was our fundraising co-ordinator and handed over a cheque for £2,003.53 to Vickie Butcher, Bury Hospice’s fundraising manager.
Sarah, who lives in Ramsbottom, was diagnosed with cervical cancer after joining Wealthcare as an apprentice in 2013. She had two months of treatment and is now clear of the illness.
She said: “To anyone fighting this disease, I say be strong and think positively. Take any support you are offered from family, friends and professionals, and give yourself something good to focus on when your battle is over.”
Vickie said: “Bury Hospice relies heavily on the community for a large part of its income.
“One of the most important sources is the business community, and Wealthcare’s support has been worth its weight in gold.
“We are extremely grateful to Wealthcare and its staff for the fabulous commitment and support they have given us over the past 12 months.”
